‘Stark contrast’: Pundit thinks Harry Kane has put £60m Arsenal target to shame

Reported Arsenal target Dominic Calvert-Lewin struggled against Harry Kane’s Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night.

Everton-leaning pundit Michael Ball, writing in the , slated the 24-year-old’s display in comparison to the Spurs star’s masterclass.

While the Gunners target “looked lethargic and jogged around”, the Tottenham talisman scored a brace and played a part in two more goals in the 5-0 win.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Calvert-Lewin in recent months.

Ahead of the January transfer window, claimed the England international has admirers among Arsenal’s recruitment department and coaching staff.

And recently suggested the Gunners would look to swoop for the England international in the summer transfer window.

The claimed in December that Calvert-Lewin could cost £60million or above.

“In stark contrast”

Calvert-Lewin and Kane are the star strikers for Everton and Tottenham respectively, and both play for England.

Indeed, the reported Arsenal target started the season superbly, while the Spurs man struggled initially.

Sadly, Calvert-Lewin has missed much of the season with a fractured toe.

Meanwhile, Kane has returned to form and, on Monday, was unplayable as he helped Spurs thrash Everton.

“I know Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been out injured, and has only recently returned to fitness,” Ball wrote in the Liverpool Echo.

“But he doesn’t seem to be putting in the performances we hoped we would see when he returned.

“For some reason, he doesn’t seem to be putting himself about like we all know he can.

“Instead, he seems to be jogging his way through matches.”

Ball then compared Calvert-Lewin’s display with that of Marcus Rashford, who struggled off the bench in the Manchester derby.

“He looked lethargic and just jogged around, and that was what I got from Calvert-Lewin on Monday night,” he continued.

“Granted the service to him wasn’t the best, but there were simple passes to his feet that he couldn’t control and get his feet sorted out for.

“He also didn’t have an awareness around him about what he was going to do, it was simply all an afterthought.

“And when you look at the opposition and see Harry Kane and what he did, what Calvert-Lewin offered was in stark contrast.

“It was just all huff and puff – without any huffing or puffing.”
