Stan Collymore wants Liverpool to sign Raphinha ahead of Arsenal
Stan Collymore has (26/6; page 62) that he wants Liverpool to sign Raphinha ahead of the likes of Arsenal and a couple of their other Premier League rivals.
Raphinha’s future appears to be edging closer to a resolution. The Leeds United winger could be on the move after helping the Whites stay in the Premier League on the final day of last season.
Arsenal made the opening bid for the Brazilian. And reports claim that they are preparing a second offer for the 25-year-old. Meanwhile, Tottenham are also expected to make a bid for the winger.
Chelsea are also in the mix for Raphinha. It could well be a coup for one of his admirers to get a deal done for the Leeds star.
But Collymore wants the Reds to swoop in and snatch Raphinha from their grasp.
“My message to Liverpool is, ‘Go on, get in there and get him, and future proof for the prospect of Salah leaving in a year. With Arsenal, he would go there and carry on in the same vein as he plays at Leeds, where I don’t think he is as tactically aware as I’d like him to be, a lot of what he does is off the cuff,” (26/6; page 62).
“If Jurgen Klopp can show the boy how to play with more tactical discipline, the Reds will have one hell of a potential threat down the left or right with a promise of goals if he stays high up the pitch rather than drifting.”
Collymore wants Liverpool to sign Raphinha
Raphinha would potentially have reservations about moving to Liverpool ahead of the World Cup. His priority has surely got to be playing regularly as he looks to secure his spot in Tite’s plans.
Obviously, turning down Liverpool would be an incredibly brave move. Reports claimed he has already done so this summer. But Jurgen Klopp already has a number of superb attacking players. And with that, Raphinha would not necessary be a regular starter.
He would also face a fight to play regularly for either Arsenal or Tottenham. But clearly, the depth Liverpool boast in attacking areas is on another level right now.
Perhaps that will help Leeds as they look to keep the ‘‘ wide-man. He will certainly play week-in, week-out for the Whites leading up to the World Cup.
If he is keen to join Liverpool this summer however, he could certainly be a very good signing.
