Squad size isn’t the only reason Adam would find Rangers return difficult

Charlie Adam has admitted that he would like to rejoin his former club Rangers to end his Stoke City exile in January but has also said that it would be ‘difficult’ due to the size of Steven Gerrard’s squad.

He : “If it was an option, it’s something. It’s a wonderful club and I had great times there. It’s a big, big club still as well.

“If it was an opportunity to go back, great. But I think it would be difficult for it to happen because of the amount of players they have and things like that. But you never know in football.”

The scale of Gerrard’s options is not the only reason Adam would struggle if he returned north to join his former team-mates Ibrox revolution.

Gerrard is looking to create a high-intensity, hugely professional side to restore Rangers to its former glory; and Adam simply doesn’t fit the bill.

He has been out of the Potters squad for much of the season, so his fitness is not likely to be where it needs to be and his style of play is the polar opposite to what Gerrard wants to see.

All of that should serve to rule out a Rangers return for Adam.
