‘Spurs will make a move’: Tottenham to launch bid for £15m star no matter what happens on Sunday – journalist

Tottenham will bid for Djed Spence whether or not Nottingham Forest get promoted to the Premier League this weekend.

The flying defender is currently on loan at Forest, who take on Huddersfield in the Championship play-off final at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

Spence looks set to leave Middlesbrough this summer, and Spurs journalist Alasdair Gold says that Antonio Conte will battle for the defender no matter what.

Forest would obviously be in a far better position to jostle for Spence’s full-time services if they go up, but even if they do, Spurs will not be deterred.

Gold : “If Forest don’t go up, either way, I think Spurs will make a move for Djed Spence.

“If Forest go up then they may hold the cards, they’ll have that extra money and he may want to continue his journey there.

“But if they don’t go up, I don’t think they’ll have the money to make his move permanent and he’ll be more willing for a Premier League move.”

Arsenal have also been linked with Spence, and it is perhaps no surprise to see the north London rivals in competition for the same players.

Spurs have the advantage in terms of offering Champions League football, and they would surely be far more attractive than Forest if Steve Cooper’s side lose on Sunday.

If they win, Spence might be tempted to stay with a club where he is almost guaranteed to start, although that said, there is a real opportunity to go straight into the Spurs side at right wing-back, given the quality of the options Conte has in that position right now.
