Spurs want ‘unbelievable’ £45m midfielder in January; but PL rival would rather he moves elsewhere

Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a blow if they hope to sign Kalvin Phillips during the January transfer window, with Manchester City preferring to send him elsewhere.

That is according to a report from , which claims that the Premier League champions would rather that he joins Juventus next month, with the Old Lady eyeing a loan deal for the 28-year-old.

Kalvin Phillips will surely leave the Etihad Stadium in January. His move to Manchester City has just not worked out for the England international personally. He has barely kicked a ball for Pep Guardiola’s side this season.

Tottenham could miss out on Kalvin Phillips

Nevertheless, plenty of sides appear to be eyeing a move for Phillips in January. Liverpool have previously been linked with Phillips. Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Tottenham, Newcastle and Manchester United are all interested in the former Leeds man.

Meanwhile, Juventus are considering a move to sign Phillips on loan with the option to buy him permanently in the summer.

adds that Manchester City would prefer to see Phillips head to Turin as they are wary of strengthening a Premier League rival.

Manchester City midfielder could potentially be a brilliant signing for Ange Postecoglou’s side

Phillips could be a really good signing for Spurs if they can negotiate a deal. His time at City has not worked out. However, he is an ‘‘ player at his best, who has previously shone in the Premier League and on the international stage.

His form under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds prompted Manchester City to spend to get a deal done.

So he would have the tools to succeed in Ange Postecoglou’s system. He knows what it takes to play for such an energetic team who can blow sides away with their work-rate. And he is excellent on the ball.

But clearly, there are plenty of hurdles to clear before Phillips ends up signing for Tottenham.
