Spurs target Johan Lange could have signed for £17m this summer now pens new contract with £42m release clause
A player Tottenham wanted to sign this summer has now more than doubled his value with a new contract.
Spurs carried out some impressive business, landing Archie Gray – a player tipped to emulate Declan Rice – in a £30m move from Leeds, while an exciting talent in Wilson Odobert also arrived in addition to a proper No.9 in Dominic Solanke.
Now – however – Tottenham may have to cross one target off the shortlist after he penned a new contract…
Loic Bade commits to Sevilla after Tottenham interest
Back at the end of February, French defender Loic Bade confirmed that Tottenham want to sign him.
The Sevilla No.22 Estadio Deportivo: “There is a little bit of satisfaction. When a great club like Tottenham are interested, it’s because you do good things, but, on the other hand, there is something that tells you to be calm, you have to work and concentrate on games.”
Now – however – Bade has evidently become more concentrated on Sevilla than Tottenham, as the man from Sevres has just signed a new deal with the Spanish side running until July 2029.
Fabrizio Romano claims that the 22-year-old’s new contract includes a €50m (£42m) release clause.
It comes after claimed that Sevilla’s asking price for Bade was just €20m (£17m) during the summer transfer window, as VfB Stuttgart and AS Roma also showed interest.
If Tottenham failed to sign the France U23 international when he had a £17m price tag, we highly doubt a deal will end up materialising now £25m has been added to that figure.
Spurs have no need for another central defender
We are actually quite pleased that Tottenham failed to sign Bade, as he would have blocked the pathway of two precocious talents in Luka Vuskovic and Ashley Phillips.

Ange Postecoglou even mentioned that he is keen to ensure the talented duo have a clear passage into the first-team at Spurs when discussing late recruitment, Football London: “We’ve got Ashley Phillips, we’ve got young Luka Vuskovic available next year. Two young centre-backs. I don’t want to block their pathway by doing something now (last minute).”
In fact, Tottenham even managed to fend off Barcelona to sign Vuskovic, whereas Philips has been tipped to become a superstar – so you can see why Postecoglou is fond of the duo.
Hopefully, they can fulfil their immense potential in N17 and become huge players for Spurs.
