Spurs-supporting pundit urges Paratici to bid for £50m ‘dream’ from PL rival

Darren Ambrose that he would love to see Tottenham Hotspur make a big-money bid for Tariq Lamptey on the final day of the January transfer window.

It has been a turbulent window for Tottenham. Antonio Conte has had to wait some time for his first signing. But it would appear that two players are on the verge of joining at long last.

Reports suggest that both Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski are on the way from Juventus. But of course, that will not alleviate all of the frustration amongst fans regarding some of the setbacks there have been.

Obviously, the biggest disappointment probably surrounds missing out on Luis Diaz. Tottenham made a £46 million bid for the Porto star. However, that move appeared to prompt Liverpool into action and the Reds got the deal done.

Spurs have responded by pursuing other targets. But Ambrose has suggested that he would love to see Tottenham push the boat out for Lamptey with the money not spent on Diaz.

“There’s money left over. They tried to get Diaz. They’ve got money, and I’m sure [Conte] was promised a lot more in terms of signings coming in. So maybe like a Tariq Lamptey,” .

“I think Tariq Lamptey could absolutely play in the top four. And if you’re Spurs, and you want to get to the top four, you have to add these kind of players. So if it’s £50 million, you start low, you’ve got all day, and you see where it takes you.”

Lamptey deal would be brilliant way for Tottenham to mark deadline day, but surely there’s no chance

Lamptey is a player Tottenham have been linked in recent times. It was reported earlier in the month that they were keen on the £50 million-rated right wing-back.

Spurs have not yet signed a player in that position. And Lamptey is one of the most exciting talents in the Premier League. Graham Potter has previously labelled him to work with.

Obviously, Tottenham’s resources may be depleted by the deals for Kulusevski and Bentancur. But there will still be hope that there is still money in the kitty to spring a surprise or two.

In truth, it would be a huge shock if Tottenham made a move for Lamptey. If anything, his asking price has probably increased with the deadline looming.

But there are likely to be plenty of Spurs fans who agree with Ambrose that he would be an amazing addition.
