Spurs reportedly rekindle interest in ‘world-class’ forward, months after pulling plug on move

Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be active in the January transfer window after an underwhelming first half of the season.

Antonio Conte’s Spurs have struggled for consistency and delivered far too many disappointing displays.

But with the World Cup bringing the season to a halt, Tottenham can take stock and plan for the January window.

According to , Spurs are focusing on reinforcements at right wing-back and up front.

Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison have all picked up up injuries so far this season.

Therefore, Conte is apparently looking to bolster his attacking ranks, albeit as back-up.

And has claimed that Barcelona forward Memphis Depay is on the Spurs radar once again.

They reported that ‘Tottenham will be paying close attention to Memphis Depay’s World Cup performances as he will be available in January and could even leave Barcelona on a free transfer.’

Spurs were heavily linked with the Netherlands international during the summer.

However, a move never materialised, Spanish outlet AS reporting that the Tottenham board blocked a move for him.

Now, with Spurs wobbling amid injury issues up front, could the hierarchy have changed their mind?

Depay’s Barca contract runs out at the end of the season, so it’s a possibility he could move in January.

This way, his club would be able to pick up a fee for him, rather than losing him for nothing in the summer.

Depay has been on the sidelines since September, though he should be back in time for the World Cup.

Depending on how he fares in Qatar, this could put him in the shop window.

Depay to Spurs wouldn’t be a bad shout as a back-up / rotation player.

He has rebuilt his career since leaving the Premier League. And he may return feeling that he has a big point to prove.

Depay is a ‘‘ forward who looks to be available for a cut-price fee – ideal as cover for Antonio Conte.
