Spurs predicted XI v Palace: Jose Mourinho drops £80k-a-week defender and star who’s ‘better than ever’
Tottenham Hotspur will hope to keep up their great recent form in Sunday night’s Premier League meeting with Crystal Palace at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Jose Mourinho’s Spurs have won their last three games in all competitions and kept clean sheets in each of those.
With Spurs within touching distance of the European places, Mourinho is likely to go for his strongest players.
However, with games coming thick and fast, including next Thursday’s Europa League meeting with Dinamo Zagreb, he has to be mindful of those who risk injury or fatigue.
In defence, Toby Alderweireld has played three games in a row, and four consecutive matches may be a bit much considering his previous hamstring issue.
Mourinho could potentially give the veteran a break and bring Eric Dier into the XI to partner Davinson Sanchez.
Sergio Reguilon was benched against Fulham and he could replace Ben Davies, while Serge Aurier should be back from a calf issue and replace Matt Doherty at right-back.
Although Tanguy Ndombele and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg looked jaded last time out, Mourinho may not want to risk going without them from the off in a league game.
Although Gareth Bale is in great form – “better than ever”, in Mourinho’s – he could be dropped for Sunday’s clash.
The manager won’t want to push him too hard and risk another injury, so he could get a rest – in that case, Lucas Moura could take his place.
Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane are virtually undroppable while Dele Alli is in incredible form, so all three could get the nod against the Eagles.
