Spurs predicted XI v Chelsea: £23m defender returns, £80k-a-week ace gets rare start

Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to get back to winning ways in the Premier League tonight following two defeats on the trot.

Jose Mourinho’s Spurs host London rivals Chelsea, now managed by Thomas Tuchel, in a 8pm kickoff.

Tottenham go into the game on the back on defeats to Liverpool and Brighton, while the Blues claimed a 2-0 win over Burnley last time out.

Mourinho will also face some big selection decisions across the pitch, with Harry Kane, Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Dele Alli all out.

So, who could the Spurs boss opt for in his starting XI?

Tottenham were overrun in midfield against Brighton, and Reguilon’s absence means 3-4-3 isn’t as impactful, so we predict a return to 4-2-3-1.

Hugo Lloris is all-but certain to be in goal, while Ben Davies, Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld should make up the bulk of the back four.

Serge Aurier is back in the fold after missing out on the squad against Brighton and we predict the man will return on the right side of defence.

Moussa Sissoko could be moved back into his more natural position after being deployed as a wing-back against Brighton, part of a midfield two alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Carlos Vinicius looked bright against the Seagulls and could be handed a start up front, with Son Heung-min, Tanguy Ndombele and Erik Lamela behind him.

The Argentine came off the bench last time out and could well be handed his first start since November.

Predicted Spurs XI v Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Dier, Davies; Sissoko, Hojbjerg; Lamela, Ndombele, Son; Vinicius
