Spurs may have to make ‘really crazy’ offer to sign ‘fantastic’ player, even £52m may not be enough – Romano

Fabrizio Romano says Antony could cost Tottenham crazy money as they look to bolster their squad this summer.

In an interview with , Romano said that Ajax are really not keen to lose any more of their top stars this summer.

It would take a huge offer to get them to change their mind, amid Tottenham’s battle with new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag over the Brazil international.

Even £52 million might not be enough to get the job done for Antonio Conte, who wants a new versatile forward ahead of next term.

Antony could cost Tottenham ‘crazy’ money

When asked if it is possible that Antony could leave this summer, Romano said: “Possible? Yes. Because Man United have had initial talks with Ajax about Antony.

“We know the connection between Ajax and Erik ten Hag is very strong. If Antony is Antony today, it is thanks to Erik ten Hag. They did a great job together and that’s why the connection is great. It is now important for Man United to understand the price situation.

“Because Ajax have already lost a lot of important players this summer – Mazraoui, Gravenberch, Haller. So they have no intention of selling other stars. So it must be a really crazy offer for Antony.

“If you see Man United offers of €40-45m at Ajax then it’s absolutely not enough to sign Antony this summer. They want a lot more than that. More than 50, maybe even more than 55. As far as I know, I’m not even sure if they would accept 60 million euros (£51.6 million).”

How far above £52 million any club would need to go to sign Antony determines the plausibility of Tottenham signing him this summer.

What are their alternatives? Richarlison is perhaps the most likely right now, with David Ornstein saying he has been told that deal will get done.

But that fee would not be cheap, and that could yet see Spurs move onto the man labelled as a ‘‘ player by his former Ajax manager ten Hag, if the price is right.
