Tottenham: Mauro Icardi latest; £17million striker signs

Yesterday finally saw the resolution of the long-running transfer saga between To💟ttenham Hotspur and Vincent Janssen, as the with the North London outfit on Tuesday afternoon. Signing on for four years, Janssen is clearly seen as a valuable addit🐽ion by Mauricio Pochettino, particularly when you consider the reported £17 million which was required to secure his signature.

After much discussion, the 22-year-old is now part of the Argentine’s squad for the newꦫ campaign, and could become an integral part of their plans for success, even though he is unlikely to usurp Harry Kane’s position as first-choice striker. With the🍰 additional demand of Champions League action this term, rotation of Spurs’ squad will be a key factor as the season progresses. This applies all over the pitch, but can most notably be seen at the pinnacle of the front-line.

Harry Kane started all 38 games in the Premier League in 2015/16, and this would simply not be possible after mid-week fixtures in Europe’s elite competition. Furthermore, the debacle at Euro 2016 for England was a stark reminder that burn-out is a very real po♛ssibility, and Kane seemed to be suffering more than most. Pochettino can ill afford this to afflict his star striker next season, so new man Janssen will need to be relied upon.

, and while Spurs fans would of course be delighted if their recent signing is able to replicate the success of the formidable former Manchester United hitman, but Janssen is far from just a goal poacher. In this Tottenham team, much more is required from a striker, and his all-round pl⛄ay in the build-up phase of attacking moves has drawn as much praise as h🌱is goal-scoring, despite netting 27 times last term.

There may be the occasion over the nextꦇ 12 months where both of Spurs’ front-line attackers are required to play together, and this is certainly something that Janssen belie💛ves is more than possible, and will only benefit Pochettino’s side.

“(Kane’s) a great striker but we will see how it goes. We can complement each other, I think I can learn a lot from him.”

Before thiꦚs summer began, Mauro Icardi was more well known to Premier League supporters than Vincent Janssen, and Spurs have been linked with the Argentine prodigy in recent days. It has recently however, that Inter’s sporting director is intenဣt on retaining the services of Icardi.

Prior to this, the 23-year-old’s partner had expressed Icardi’s desire to leave the San Siro for pastures new, but it does not appear as though the club hold the same desir📖e for him to depart. Pi🅠ero Ausulio has said:

“Icardi signed a new contract a year ago, we’ve made him our captain and he’s not for sale. Anything else is just talk.”

This is a blow to Icardi’s potential suitors, which include; but are not limited t✨o, Spurs and their bi🌱tter rivals Arsenal.

However, for the Lilywhites, they have just secured Vincent Janssen, and so a third big-money signing in the forward department is probably not at the top of the to-do list for now. Despite♛ his 16 goals in 32 Serie A starts, strengthening elsewhere should be prioritised, such as in the wide areas, where Erik Lamela and Nacer Chadli have both been mooted as possible departures this summer.
