‘Spurs like him’: Alasdair Gold says Tottenham are big fans of ‘really good’ £30m defender
Tottenham Hotspur need a new centre-back this summer.
Spurs have just three recognised senior centre-halves in their squad right now, and they need more depth.
Luckily, it sounds as though help could be on the way as the summer transfer window is about to open.
Indeed, Hiroki Ito has been linked with a move to Tottenham this week, and according to Alasdair Gold, speaking on his , there’s another centre-half Spurs are keen on.

Tottenham keen on Trevoh Chalobah
According to Gold, Tottenham like Trevoh Chalobah heading into this summer’s transfer window.
“They also have Trevoh Chalobah as well who has had a hamstring injury that kept him out for the bulk of the season.
“Spurs like him as well. He’s been valued at around £30m because he still has four years left on his contact. The issiue is with Chalobah is that I think he’d be really good for Spurs, but £30m would be quite a lot for a fourth-choice centre-back.
Chalobah is very expensive
Chalobah would be a good signing for Tottenham, but, as Gold says, this pricetag of £30m is very steep.
Paying that sort of money for a fourth-choice defender isn’t something Spurs should be doing. After all, those funds could be put towards a first-team player in another position.
Let’s not forget, Micky van de Ven cost Spurs just last summer, there’s better value for better players out there if you look in the right places.
Chalobah would be a very good player for a number of teams in the Premier League, but for a team like Tottenham he’d cost too much for the role he’d play in the squad.
Who knows? Perhaps if Chalobah’s price-point drops substantially later in the window this is one Spurs could revisit, but at £30m, it’s hard to imagine that Tottenham will go for the Englishman at this point.
Chalobah may be a player to keep half an eye on this summer.
