‘He’s got that Defoe style’: Some Spurs fans think they’ve unearthed a real diamond
Spurs fans had a night to forget on Thursday as their side fell to a 1-0 defeat at Vitesse in the Europa Conference League.
However, one Tottenham player did emerge with some credit – Dilan Markanday.
The 20-year-old is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in the Spurs academy.

Markanday has a staggering six goals and two assists from just seven Premier League 2 appearances this term.
He also weighed in with two assists in the Papa John’s Trophy win over Stevenage in August.
Markanday’s efforts have seen him in and around the first team this season.
And on Thursday, he made his Spurs senior debut, coming off the bench to get 19 minutes at the GelreDome.
Markanday looked lively in his cameo appearance, clocking up some and looking better than quite a few teammates.

He completed a team-high two successful dribbles out of three, made one tackle, delivered one long ball, won four ground duels and drew a free kick.
Though he couldn’t make much of an impact on the game, Markanday certainly looks first-team ready and could well be in line for more minutes.
One Spurs fan even compared him to N17 icon Jermain Defoe:
One sided refereeing, but still, we showed little desire. Markanday looked like our best player and he only played 20 minutes!

Loan him out like we did skipp. Mind you, markanday looks like a top talent. In the defoe mould

The keeper, the back 4, Lo Calso and Markanday played well . The rest were rubbish! Winks needs to be sold, Alli needs to go. Gil and Bergwijn needs to show more.

Well Markanday looked good and looks ready to play at first team level. Saying that compared to that performance I could get in that team.

Markanday was a positive for me and looked bright when he came on. 3 years older than Scarlett who has been put under a lot of pressure

Markanday did look bright in his cameo role. He brought energy and good touch on the ball. I think he earned more mins. He looked eager and driven.
