‘0 ambition FC’: Some Spurs fans react as Alasdair Gold delivers ‘sad news’

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted to Alasdair Gold’s claim that Spurs aren’t looking to replace Steve Hitchen.

The 44-year-old was appointed as chief scout for Tottenham in February 2017 as a replacement for Paul Mitchell, and has since become Spurs’ technical performance director.

“January transfer window is the worst transfer window,” he said on All of Nothing, as quoted by .

“It’s a window of opportunity, it’s a window of panic, it’s never a window to plan… I hate it.”

Gold’s latest Q&A on saw him receive a question from STA_JB about whether Spurs are planning to make changes in the role.

“There hasn’t been any indication of Spurs appointing a new director of football to replace Steve Hitchen,” he replied.

“From the outside it seems like the director of football, sporting director, technical performance director role, whatever you want to call it, is a tough gig at Tottenham.

“We’ve seen David Pleat, Frank Arnesen, Damien Comolli, Franco Baldini, Paul Mitchell and now Hitchen all take on the role and it doesn’t seem the easiest due to the financial constraints at the club.

“They often have to look at cheaper raw talents and there’s obviously more risk associated with those kind of players.

“As for Rangnick, I’d be surprised if, in his sixties, he stepped out of his comfort zone of Germany after so many decades there and there are some iffy comments he has been reported as saying in recent years that would likely be seized on by the media.”
