‘Unbelievable’: Toby Alderweireld raves about talented Spurs man ahead of League Cup final
Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has spoken to talkSPORT about what it’s been like to have Ryan Mason in charge of the Spurs first team over the past few days.
The 29-year-old, who is the head of player development at Tottenham, was handed the first-team job on a caretaker basis following Jose Mourinho’s sacking on Monday.
Mason, became the youngest manager in Premier League history when he steered Spurs to a 2-1 victory over Southampton on Wednesday night.

And Alderweireld, who played alongside Mason during his time as a player in north London, was impressed by how his former teammate has done so far and what he brings to the role.
Asked how it has been playing under a manager three years his junior, Alderweireld : “Surprisingly very good.
“Of course we played together. We know each other. But he has a very good maturity – how he brings stuff over to the team, his idea of how he wants to play football, his tactical views.
“The time has changed where it’s only one guy who decides everything.
“We all talk about football, everyone sees football in a different way and of course, they will talk about how we want to play, how we feel comfortable.
“But he has one mindset in how he wants to play and he brings that to the team in an unbelievable way.”
Up next for Spurs is Sunday’s League Cup final meeting with Manchester City at Wembley.
