Spurs: Croatian midfielder linked; Vincent Janssen latest; PSG youngster wanted
The Spurs rumours start with the Croatian Milan Badelj, of Fiorentina, according to the . The midfielder plays a similar role to that which Luka Modric played during his time at Spurs, except with a more physical presence that would allow him to play as a more conventional holding midfielder in the English game.
Badelj would also add experience to a Spurs team that is young and hungry, but lacks experience of football at the very top level. Furthermore, Badelj would be a great player from which the likes of Eric Dier could learn a lot, seeing as the Croatian is 26 and has played in three different European leagues. Moreover, he would also provide cover in a position that Spurs are noticeably short on, assuming that academy graduate Dominic Ball is sent out on loan again after a successful stint at Rangers.
The transfer also looks achievable; has said that the player will leave Fiorentina in the summer, and the allure of Champions League football would certainly make Spurs a very attractive destination for the midfielder.
Perhaps a more exciting signing going forwards would be that of Wilfried Kanga, an 18-year-old striker who has delayed signing a new contract at his current club PSG. that Spurs have offered Kanga a contract, though it remains to be seen whether PSG will let another striker depart the club after the ongoing rumours surrounding Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
It would certainly be a statement of intent from Spurs, with the youngster highly rated across Europe, due to his ability to play as a striker or in a wider position – traits that could make him a vital player in the team next season. Spurs face strong competition from across Europe for Kanga’s signature however, with TalkSport stating that Benfica are also very interested in the teenager. Therefore, this is a deal that Spurs will want to wrap up quickly. Kanga would be likely to replace Clinton N’Jie in the pecking order, as the Cameroonian has made very little impact since his transfer from Lyon.
The rumours conclude with reporting that Spurs face competition from Wolfsburg for AZ Alkmaar striker Vincent Janssen. The Dutchman looked very likely to sign for Spurs within the next few weeks, especially as his Netherlands team failed to qualify for Euro 2016, although the involvement of Wolfsburg may complicate manners.
Whilst Spurs arguably still provide a more attractive destination, Janssen or his agent may use the German club’s interest to try to achieve a better deal from Spurs, which will only serve to prolong negotiations. The chances of Wolfsburg actually signing the player appear, at the moment, fairly small; the striker was in London only last week to hold talks with Tottenham.
Still, if Spurs have learnt their lessons from previous windows, they will be eager to tie down Janssen, who was so prolific in the Eredivisie, sooner rather than later.
