Spurs appointing Roberto Martinez will ensure Toby Alderweireld stays put
The foreseeable future and success of Spurs is once again in the hands of Daniel Levy, who needs to appoint the right successor to take over from Jose Mourinho.
A number of names are already being linked with the job in North London. Erik Ten Haag, Brendan Rodgers, and former Everton boss, Roberto Martinez, all among those touted thus far.

But it is the name of Martinez which should be interesting for Spurs fans. The Belgium coach is not only an experienced coach at Premier League level, but he’ll have learnt so much from being with the irresistable Belgian squad in the last few years.
And not only is Martinez a good manager and a good fit on paper for Spurs, he could also ensure the club keeps one of it’s star performers in the form of defender, Toby Alderweireld.
Belgian connections
There is simply no way that Martinez is going to come into Spurs and not want Alderweireld as part of his plans. The experienced defender is being with a move to Ajax. Coincidentally, Ajax are currently looked after by the aforementioned Ten Haag.
Alderweireld has two years left on his £80k-a-week deal, per . And just like under all the managers he’s played for at Spurs, he’s become integral to Martinez for Belgium.

The big defender is arguably still Tottenham’s best centre-half. His performances are, generally, excellent. He commands in the air, and is good on the deck. Put bluntly, he’s still a very good Premier League centre-half in anyone’s book.
So while the focus at Spurs might be on keeping Harry Kane happy, the appointment of Martinez should ensure Alderweireld stays put.
