Sporting CP fans think Frederico Varandas pulled off ‘masterclass’ after Arsenal agree to pay £64m for Viktor Gyokeres

Sporting CP have reached an agreement with Arsenal over the sale of Viktor Gyokeres in a record-breaking deal for the Portuguese club.

Arsenal are closing in on Gyokeres with the two clubs having agreed on a deal worth £55m plus an additional £9m in add-ons.

The Gunners have been on the hunt for a number nine for several months now, and Andrea Berta looks to have finally secured a deal.

But the fans of Sporting are pleased with the deal they are getting for their second-highest scorer and have been hailing their president for his involvement.

Sporting CP fans praise Frederico Varandas after Viktor Gyokeres agreement

Sporting CP supporters have been praising their president, Frederico Varandas, following the deal he agreed with Arsenal for Viktor Gyokeres.

Arsenal fans were frustrated by Varandas, who was refusing to agree to sell Gyokeres, despite suggestions of there being a gentleman’s agreement to sell Gyokeres.

But on Sunday evening, the North London club appear to have reached an agreement for the striker and he could now move to the Emirates Stadium in the coming days.

The player’s agent waived the fee he was due to ensure that the transfer was agreed upon, and this will delight the North London club’s supporters.

Gyokeres was desperate to join Arsenal, and his determination to make the move has finally paid off, as he looks set to finally travel to the English capital.

Sporting fans have now taken to X to share their delight over the situation and have hailed Varandas for standing firm over his valuation.

One fan said: “He didn’t bend, he didn’t yield. He defended the club’s interests to the limit. He had the guts in the right place, in good Portuguese. Even in the face of the team’s ‘star.’ Frederico Varandas, well done.”

Another added: “Varandas got the amount he wanted, didn’t give in to blackmail, and even left the agent with nothing. What a masterclass.”

There was further praise for the Sporting president: “Varandas proved to be a president up to the task. He didn’t mess around. He didn’t give in to the online campaign, the agent, or the media. He resolved the matter. A huge surprise.”

Finally, another claimed: “Sporting CP should receive exactly what it wanted, and the agent is waiving 10 per cent of the transfer fee. Correct stance by Frederico Varandas and his management, who defended the club’s interests. Gyökeres leaves a terrible impression in the way he handled the entire situation!”

Strikers who have moved for big money from the Portuguese league have not tended to do so well elsewhere, with Darwin Nunez, Goncalo Ramos, and Joao Felix all struggling.

The Swede has already proved himself in England, but that was in the Championship with Coventry City, and now he must show big improvements from his underwhelming spell at Brighton.

£64m is a lot of money to invest in a player who is 27 years old and also a player who still has so much to prove at the top level.
