‘Special’ player could now be set to stay at Arsenal with Fabio Vieira departure imminent
Fabio Vieira’s impending departure has thrown a spanner into the works of Arsenal’s transfer plans ahead of deadline day.
The Portuguese midfielder is set to seal a season-long loan move to former club FC Porto, having struggled to get regular game time in his belt under Mikel Arteta.
Vieira played just 17 times across all competitions for Arsenal last season, scoring two goals.
His move, however, could have implications for Reiss Nelson, who now looks to stay at the club despite wanting a transfer.

The Englishman is another player who has struggled to get regular minutes under his belt in recent seasons and looked certain to move on earlier this summer.
However, a report from states that Nelson is now likely to stay put as Vieira’s departure has left Arsenal a bit short of options.
Nelson was linked with a move to Leicester City and is keen on a move to a Premier League club to continue his stay in England.
Now, with Arsenal a man short due to Vieira’s loan move, it remains to be seen whether or not the 24-year-old is allowed to leave.

Nelson was once hailed as a ‘special’ player by Mikel Arteta but hasn’t managed to nail down a starting spot under the Spaniard.
He scored a few important goals as a substitute during Arsenal’s 2022-23 title challenge, but the following campaign didn’t prove to be successful for him.
Nelson scored just one goal in 24 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal last season, starting only one Premier League game.
One glance at his overall record under Arteta is enough to understand that he’s nowhere close to being one of the key players at the club.
At the age of 24, regular game time is worth its weight in gold for Nelson, so he’d be best advised to secure a transfer before the deadline.
Arsenal are already on the lookout for an attacking signing before the window slams shut, so if they manage to get someone through the door, Nelson’s potential departure could become a lot easier.
