Spanish press react to Lucas Bergvall’s start at Tottenham after he rejected Barcelona move

It was a sizable coup for Tottenham Hotspur when Lucas Bergvall chose a move to the club over Barcelona in January.

Bergvall had offers from both clubs, and Barcelona had really gone all out to tempt the Sweden international to the Spain.

However, Bergvall chose Tottenham, excited to work with Ange Postecoglou and the other excellent youngsters in north London.

The 18-year-old has now made three appearances for Postecoglou in pre-season, starting in the win over Hearts earlier this month.

Dejan Kuluveski is one many at Tottenham impressed with Bergvall, who seems to have avoided any injury worries after his minutes against Vissel Kobe.

That being said, it’s not just those at Spurs that are taking notice of Bergvall’s excellent start.

Spanish outlet , who predominantly focus on all things Barcelona, have just shared an article almost lamenting just how well Bergvall has begun at Tottenham, a tale of what could have been from their perspective.

In their report, Sport pointed out that Barcelona always expected Spurs to win the race for Bergvall given they tabled him and his agent a much better offer financially.

But that admission doesn’t seem to have lessened their frustration towards the potential that Bergvall is already showing.

Sport wrote a brief summary of Bergvall’s start in pre-season, outlining that he was the protagonist in the second half against Vissel Kobe in particular.

They shared: “Bergvall made his [full] debut a week ago, playing in the second half of the 2-0 win over QPR, successfully completing 42 of the 48 passes he made.

“The Swede was involved in three of the chances the English team had in the second half.

“After a promising debut, a minor injury threatened his progress, but in the second pre-season match, this Saturday, he was again the protagonist in the second half against Vissel Kobe in the victory (2-3) of the English team. He was the one who assisted Pedro Porro’s goal.”

Of course, this good work is just the beginning for Bergvall at Tottenham, a talent who immediately appears first-team ready.

That being said, Bergvall says his connection with one Tottenham teammate is already incredibly strong – someone he could line up alongside this season.
