Spanish football expert makes exciting prediction about Tottenham youngster Alejo Veliz after start to his loan spell
A year since he first moved to Tottenham Hotspur and Europe, it now seems as if Alejo Veliz is finally finding his feet on loan at Espanyol.
Veliz endured a frustrating time whilst on loan at Sevilla in La Liga during the second half of last season.
The Tottenham youngster was handed the #10 shirt upon arrival, presumably imagining that he would play a significant role.
However, Veliz got onto the pitch just six times wearing Sevilla colours, and only played 31 minutes of football.
That being said, Veliz is already enjoying a much better time at Espanyol early on.
Espanyol’s manager hailed Veliz’s potential after he scored a 96th minute winner for his side last weekend, and it seems as if the Spurs youngster has found a much more harmonious fit.
Tottenham youngster Alejo Veliz praised for ‘aggression’ and set bold Espanyol target
Spanish football expert Graham Hunter was discussing Veliz’s progress and talent for Premier Sports.
Hunter thought that Veliz had something ‘special’ and predicted that the 20-year-old can make it at the top level.

He said: “For Veliz, people need to understand, he’s a country boy, a country boy who was playing for not quite a village team when Rosario spotted him and took him to one of Argentina’s big, certainly passionate cities.
“He didn’t spend long there and was recruited by Spurs and they’ve given him – my memory tells me it’s a contract until 2029, because they think that highly of him.
“I saw him at Spurs last season scoring at Brighton, he took three attempts to finish a goal because of jitteriness or nerves, but our producer who is watching this now [Veliz’s late winner for Espanyol], who is a massive Espanyol fan.
“I said to him at the beginning of the season after game week one, and he agreed I’m not taking credit, Veliz has got it, he’s got the movement, he’s got the aggression.
“He has a certain something that means that occasionally he’ll try things and you’re like ‘no’, I think he could be a 16 or 17 goal [striker] this season.
“Which is a big ask, I know I might be wrong, but what I see in him are the special elements about judgement, about movement, about being able to hold players off.
“Raw, raw as a farm boy – partially because he is a country boy, but they have an exciting footballer.”
Alejo Veliz is the perfect partner for Dominic Solanke
Even after signing Dominic Solanke this summer, Spurs were still linked with signing a striker.
Tottenham were reportedly still interested in Ivan Toney – who eventually made his move to Saudi Arabia on deadline day.
Perhaps Tottenham needed to sell Richarlison first, who the club were content to part ways with this summer.
Richarlison wanted to stay at Tottenham on this occasion, but perhaps that may change in the summer if he’s not handed sufficient opportunities.
Therefore, once Veliz has completed his season on loan at Espanyol, and perhaps achieved some of the lofty targets set out above, he could prove to be the perfect understudy for Solanke in the future.
It would be very satisfying for everyone at Spurs if that were the case – a clever bit of scouting which could still pay dividends.
