Spain’s Isco shows what Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are missing

Spain 6-1 Argentina: the scoreline was simply mind-boggling, as even in an international friendly, it is exceedingly rare to see such a lopsided scoreline between two sides of the highest quality.

And Isco, the man at the heart of the ticking Spain machine last night, should be the target of the Premier League elite this summer.

At 25 years of age, the Real Madrid midfielder is in the midst of his peak as an attacking midfielder. He is prolific on the international level, scoring 10 goals in 26 caps.

But, frustratingly, Zinedine Zidane seems to have a distrust of the Spanish magician’s qualities.

In 25 total appearances this season, Isco has completed the full 90 minutes just eight times – a startlingly low number for a player of his quality.

He has fallen down the Madrid pecking order, as Zidane has preferred the likes of Mateo Kovacic, Luka Modric, Casemiro, and Toni Kroos over the Spaniard.

Isco seems to have little option but to seek pastures new this summer.

A player in the peak of his powers needs to be the star of a side, rather than an option deemed fit only for sparing substitute appearances.

And luckily for the creative midfielder, there will be a multitude of Premier League sides vying for his signature, including Liverpool, who have held shown a long-standing interest.

For Jurgen Klopp’s side, Isco’s arrival could finally provide a long-term replacement for Philippe Coutinho and possibly facilitate a genuine title challenge next season.

The Reds have been long-term admirers of the Spanish midfielder, with reporting Jurgen Klopp’s interest last summer, when Philippe Coutinho’s future at the club began to look uncertain.

Therefore, reports by Spanish journalist , that suggest Zinedine Zidane is ready to sell Isco if he is still the manager at the Bernabeu next season, will be music to the ears of the Anfield faithful.

The Frenchman has made his distaste for the 26-year-old’s performances known, through his constant utilisation as a substitute and it speaks volumes that he hasn’t played a full 90 minutes since the 0-0 Madrid derby in mid-November.

Combined with a world-class attack consisting of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane, the Reds truly could stake a claim for the most dynamic frontline in England with the Spaniard among their ranks.

However, the Merseyside outfit will likely have competition for Isco’s signature, should he leave Madrid this summer.

Jose Mourinho would also be keen on a top-class central midfielder after his opinions appear to have soured on United’s record signing Paul Pogba.

Meanwhile, Manchester City would welcome a player who would fit perfectly into Pep Guardiola’s slick possessions style, and add a dose of flair in the centre of midfield.

Isco has the potential to be one of the best attacking midfielders in the world, right up there with the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Andres Iniesta, and Luka Modric.

However, he needs to be the star of the show to trust flourish at the upper levels of world football. A move to England would be the perfect way to fulfill his sky-high potential.
