‘Southgate has watched’: 25-year-old close to England call-up after Newcastle United failed to sign him – journalist

A number of Leeds United’s squad are currently playing for their places at this year’s World Cup.

Some players such as Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson are almost certain to receive call-ups.

“I know Southgate has watched him quite a few times and I don’t think he’s been too far away from getting into England squads in the past.”

“He fits the bill in terms of his energy levels and his stats are really good, he creates a lot of chances for his teammates, and he scores as well.”

The left-winger has been involved in the England set-up before, earning two under-21 caps while playing for New York City.

Harrison has been a consistent performer in the Premier League at Leeds, scoring 17 goals since Leeds’ promotion.

Marsch has praised the 25-year-old for how quickly he adapted to his methods.

This could be something that interests Southgate, as Harrison would have to adapt quickly having never worked with him.

Newcastle United wanted to sign Harrison this summer, but Leeds wanted a ‘staggering’ amount of money for him.

It’s no surprise given how brilliant Harrison has been for the Whites for a number of years.

Harrison close to England call-up

Jesse Marsch knows how important the World Cup is to many members of his squad.

The American manager commented in pre-season on Mateusz Klich’s World Cup ambitions.

Patrick Bamford’s recent injury problems may have hampered his chances of being called up by Gareth Southgate.

Rodrigo was previously a starting player for Spain, and was called up as recently as last season.

The 31-year-old has started the season in fine form, scoring four goals in five games.

However, the forward has unfortunately suffered an injury and there’s no return date at this time.

Harrison being close to an England call-up is a testament to how well he’s played recently.

Leeds fans might want him to have some time off given how busy this season’s fixture schedule is.

However, they’ll definitely back him to perform for the Three Lions if he earns that England call-up.
