Southampton transfer: Saints reportedly lead race to sign striker
Southampton have nudged ahead of Norwich City in the race to sign Blackburn striker Adam Armstrong. According to , the Saints are now fixed at the front of the queue.
The ex-Newcastle man was in fine form last season. He smashed 29 goals during 2020/21 as Rovers finished the season in 15th place.
Southampton find themselves in a position where they need a striker. Danny Ings has just one year left on his deal and he could leave in the near future.
As a result, the Saints will want to ensure they are well-stocked in the event of Ings leaving the club before the end of his contract.

Armstrong only has a year left on his Ewood Park contract. With that in mind, he could cost as little as £10 million during the summer window.
That is remarkable considering the ex-Newcastle youngster has scored 46 goals during the last two seasons.
Armstrong deserves his Premier League shot. He has proved an energetic performer in Blackburn’s team, scoring all different types of goals.
Norwich will have hoped to bolster their attacking ranks ahead of their first season back in the top-flight.
Southampton are an established Premier League club though and that perhaps gives them the edge now.
Armstrong to Southampton: Quality Ings replacement for Saints
Armstrong is only 24 and he still has bags of time on his side. He is nowhere near his peak yet and his lethal instinct makes him an attractive proposition.
Interestingly, he fits a similar profile to Ings. He gets into the pockets of space and is a constant menace to opposition defenders.

Armstrong being available for just £10 million is a steal. He would arrive at St Mary’s in the form of his career and he’d relish a step up to the Premier League.
Rovers boss Tony Mowbray praised Armstrong in November. After a two-goal haul against QPR he called his striker ‘.
Southampton were largely disappointing last season. Armstrong might be just the man to revive their fortunes during 2021/22.
