Southampton ignored £3m option to buy ‘super’ player who is now shining at Tottenham after £21m move
Southampton enjoyed a productive season back in 2019/20.
The Saints finished 11th in the Premier League and could boast one of the best goalscorers in Europe that term – with Danny Ings impressiv🧔ely 🐭netting 25 goals across all competitions.
T𒐪here were also memorable wins for Ralph Hasenhuttl over Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City that season.
However, Southampton made a decision at the 💧end of this 2019/20 camp🍨aign which now looks like a costly mistake.
Southampton could have signed Kevin Danso for just £3m
Kevin Danso is now starring in the Premier League – but with Tottenham rather than Southampton.
The Saints took the Austria international on loan from Augsburg for the 2019/20 𝓰campaign, but Hasenhut🧔tl handed him just ten appearances as Jan Bednarek and Jack Stephens were preferred.

Southampton did negotiate an option to take Danso permanently for £3m – according to – but ultimately decided not to trigger that clause in the summer of 2020, with the central defender moving back to Germanℱy for another loan spell, this time at Fortuna Dusseldorf.
To his credit, the man from Voitsb🐲erg impressed enough to earn a move to RC Lens, where – after 128 appearances and a taste of t💎he UEFA Champions League – he developed enough to convince Tottenham to part with £21m to sign him in the winter transfer window just gone.
As Southampton now sit bottom of the Premier League with 65 goals conceded in 27 games, we imagine Ivan Juric would love to have Danso – who A𝓡nge Postecoglou is really impressed b🍃y.
Wolves must also be envious of Tottenham
Not only Southampton, but Wolves must also be jealous of Tottenham now o💧wning the the Austrian.

"A history built on the rock, vivid and collective emotions and records that will always arouse respect in Artois. Thanks for everything Ke🉐vin."
Spurs actually snatched Danso from Wolves at the last momen🉐t just before transfer deadline day on February 3rd – leaving those at Molin𝕴eux furious.
The Old Gold ended up signing Nasser Djiga to go with Emmanuel Agbadou – a capture made earlier in the window – but the form of Danso is surely making Wo💧lves kick themselves for missing out.
