Southampton fans react to Liverpool loanee Takumi Minamino’s debut display
A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Takumi Minamino’s display as the Liverpool loanee made his debut for the Saints on Saturday.
Minamino was at the centre of one of the more surprising deadline day deals. The Japan international has left Anfield for the rest of the season having struggled for game-time so far this term.

He was unable to make his debut in midweek. But Ralph Hasenhuttl handed him a place in the starting lineup this weekend as the Saints faced Newcastle.
Unfortunately, it proved to be a miserable afternoon at St James’ Park for the visitors. They were beaten 3-2 despite coming up against nine men towards the end of the contest.

But Minamino did seem to be one of the few shining lights for Southampton. He scored a fantastic goal to get his side back in the game during the first-half.
The 26-year-old took an excellent touch to get round the defender. He then proceeded to smash a thunderous shot into the roof of the net.
It is certainly what Jurgen Klopp would have been hoping to see from the forward. And plenty of Saints fans have taken to social media to laud their January signing.
It was a hugely disappointing occasion for Southampton. But some are excited about what Minamino may do while he is on the south coast.
With that in mind, here is how some of the fans have reacted to their first glimpse of Minamino…
No urgency from – crab football just side to side. Redmond ineffective, Minamino looks the real deal.

Positive note…
Minamino is going to provide a great option. Plays on the half turn. I like him.

Bednarek needs a break from the team, Redmond offers nothing still, minamino looks ace

Redmond the scapegoat once again 😳 Stephens and Bednarek abysmal today. Only positives were Vestergaard and Minamino
— James (@jamessfc)
Least Minamino looked half decent
— Aiden Sinclair (@AidenSinclair12)
The only real plus side is that at least Minamino looks like a really good get for the Saints, and Ward-Prowse continues to prove himself as one of the best freekick takers in the world.

Try looking at the positives. Minamino looked class and will add a lot to the attack which has looked flat. We scored 2 today, same amount as we’ve scored in the last 9 league games and KWP should be back for wolves, we’ve really missed him defensively and in attack.
