Southampton fans react to Elyounoussi’s display against Derby

Southampton took on Derby County in their FA Cup third round replay on Wednesday night.

The Saints were dumped out of the competition by Frank Lampard’s Championship outfit on penalties, after the sides played out a 2-2 draw after 120 minutes.

It will have been a bitter pill for Southampton to swallow, after Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men went 2-0 up in the match.

Goals from Stuart Armstrong and Nathan Redmond gave the south coast club a comfortable position, before Harry Wilson and Martyn Waghorn struck for the visitors at St. Mary’s.

A spirited Derby managed to hold their nerve in the resulting shootout, and will now take on Accrington in the fourth round.

With Southampton looking set for a relegation battle, perhaps an early exit from the FA Cup is not such a travesty.

Surely Premier League survival has to be the priority for the club, which has been in the English top flight now for six-and-a-half seasons.

Elyounoussi struggles again

Around half of Southampton’s team played well against the Rams despite the eventual defeat, with the other half not so great.

One man who again failed to deliver though was summer signing Mohamed Elyounoussi.

The Norwegian winger struggled to impose himself and lost the ball on a number of occasions.

It was another bad display, in what has been a really tough start for the £18 million man – and it didn’t go unnoticed by the fans on social media.
