Some Southampton fans hail rarely-seen player’s ‘incredible’ display v Chelsea
A number of Southampton fans have waxed lyrical about Lyanco following his impressive Carabao Cup display against Chelsea.
The 24-year-old defender joined the Saints in the summer, but is yet to feature in the Premier League for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.
Lyanco has only played in the Carabao Cup this term, getting 74 minutes under his belt against Sheffield United.
He struggled somewhat in that game, but Hasenhuttl gave him a chance in Tuesday’s fourth-round clash, and he took it with both hands.
The Brazilian made the starting XI against the Blues and delivered a superb display, taking the Champions League holders all the way to penalties.
As per , Lyanco blocked two shots and made 10 clearances and two tackles against Chelsea.
At the other end, he weighed in with a shot on target, forcing Kepa into a brilliant save.
During and after the game, some Saints fans urged Hasenhuttl to pair Mohammed Salisu with Lyanco for the rest of the season.
And even though Southampton lost on penalties, supporters are optimistic about what the former Torino man can bring to the team in the Premier League.
