Report: Southampton have just approached Liverpool to sign their ‘absolutely outstanding’ young star

Southampton have made an approach to sign Liverpool youngster, Neco Williams, according to a report from Sky Sports today.

Sky’s transfer centre reports how the Saints have now made a move towards Liverpool about signing Williams, who is attracting a wealth of interest this summer. Other clubs included promoted duo Nottingham Forest and Fulham, are also said to be keen on the full-back.

Williams, who was hailed for being ‘absolutely outstanding‘ while on Wales duty last season, could be open to a move away from Anfield in order to get regular first-team football. Liverpool are said to be looking for around £20m to let Williams leave permanently. With so much quality already in Jurgen Klopp’s squad, he is likely to find opportunities hard to come by this season.

The youngster was influential for Fulham last season as they romped to Championship glory under Marco Silva. His form has attracted attention, though, and he faces a big decision on his next move.

Southampton are known for having a good working relationship with Liverpool. A number of deals, including the likes of Van Dijk and Mane, have been done over the years.

TBR’s View: Neco Williams Should Leave Liverpool To Get Going

Whether or not he chooses Southampton or not remains his choice, but Williams should be looking to get out of Liverpool, simply for his own benefit.

There is little point in him sitting around on the bench all next season. He did so well with Fulham that a year in the wilderness would stunt the development he’s already had.

Southampton might be good fit, though. They have a good manager in Hassenhuttl who likes to play the right way and are known for developing young players.
