Source ‘close’ to Newcastle-linked serial winner comments on reported Magpies interest

With Newcastle United on the verge of a takeover, the Magpies have been linked with several high-profile players and coaches amid the prospect of St James’ Park having a huge budget going forward.

PCP Capital Partners, headed by Amanda Staveley, have brokered the £300million deal, which is being backed by the Saudi Arabian royal family’s Public Investment Fund, and the prospective new owners are expected to have major ambitions upon arriving on Tyneside.

previously reported that Mauricio Pochettino, Massimiliano Allegri, Rafael Benitez and Lucien Favre were in the frame to replace Steve Bruce in the Newcastle dugout.

Allegri has been out of management since leaving Juventus at the end of last season, but is likely to step back into the dugout by the start of next season.

The 52-year-old won five Serie A titles with the Bianconeri between 2015 and 2019, as well as claiming four Italian Cups, two Italian Super Cups, and two Champions League final appearances.

However, it doesn’t seem as though he’ll take the reins of England’s premier black-and-white striped side.

“There is not even a ‘Newcastle’ right now.” a “source close to Allegri” is quoted by as saying. “Who should be operating? The original owner? The Saudis or the new American? Just rumours.”

TBR View:

Allegri has shown to be one of the best managers in the business, and as he’s not tied to a club at present, he would’ve been a much less expensive option than a manager currently in employment, given the compensation that would have to be paid.

Given the rumour has been emphatically played down by the Chronicle Live source, it would seem as though Allegri is not an option at present – that said, once the takeover is complete, could it be back on the cards?
