‘Don’t think you can argue’: Graeme Souness shuts Man City fans down over key Liverpool

Graeme Souness has told Manchester City fans they can have few complaints about the decision to disallow Phil Foden’s goal against Liverpool.

The goal was disallowed due to a foul from Erling Haaland on Fabinho in the build up. Since then, it’s become clear the goal wouldn’t have stood anyway, with Alisson having the ball taken out of his hands as well.

Of course, the moment was a source of frustration for Pep Guardiola and City. The City boss and some of his players bemoaned the call after the game. However, Souness, speaking on , believes there is absolutely no doubt that it was a foul.

“Yeah he’s pulled him. He’s pulled his shirt, he’s pulled him over. I don’t think even if you’re a mad City supporter, I don’t think you can argue that one. Haaland has clearly pulled Fabinho over,” Souness said on .

City played their part in a frantic game at Anfield which was, at times, a reminder of the quality that the very best in the Premier League bring to the table. Despite Haaland not scoring and there being only one goal in the tie, both sides went full pelt and in the end it was a mistake from Joao Cancelo that was the difference.

TBR’s View: Haaland Did Foul Fabinho

City can complain all they like really but Souness is bang on here and the fact is, Haaland did commit a foul.

Sometimes in the big games you need a bit of luck and Liverpool got that with VAR being available. Had it not been for that, then the outcome of the game might have been completely different.

City will continue on their charge towards the title while Liverpool will hope this is the start of a revival.
