Souness makes Divock Origi claim after Liverpool win vs Everton

Graeme Souness has told that Divock Origi is leaving Liverpool because he is not quite good enough for the club – despite his goal in the Merseyside derby on Sunday.

The Reds have kept the pressure on Manchester City with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Everton at Anfield. Andy Robertson broke the deadlock just after the hour-mark after Jurgen Klopp’s men had struggled to break down the visitors.

Everton had their chances to take something from the game. But Liverpool made sure that the points were safe, with Origi heading home with five minutes remaining of normal time.

It is yet another massive goal from Origi. It is not his first in Merseyside derbies. And of course, he has secured legendary status from some of the other strikes he has produced.

So it was probably no surprise to the Liverpool fans when Origi did double the lead on Sunday. It may well be the final goal of his Liverpool career amid reports that he is set to leave in the summer.

Liverpool supporters may have mixed feelings about Origi leaving. It is probably the right time for the Belgian to start a new chapter in his career. But obviously, there is no doubt about the impact he can make.

Interestingly, Souness suggested that it is right to let him move on.

“He’s different to any other strikers that they have. He’s got a physical presence, he’s not world class. But he’s good to have around the place. And I believe he’s leaving this summer,” .

“Origi is someone who will be allowed to leave this club because he’s not good enough for this club. But today, he played a large part in them getting three points, an important three points. And he’s scored some important goals for them.”

Souness comments on Divock Origi seem very harsh after another crucial goal for Liverpool

Origi deserves a lot more credit for his contribution to Liverpool than Souness seemed to give him. It is hard to think of many players within the current squad who have scored a greater number of important goals for Liverpool.

He has stepped up on so many occasions when the Reds have needed him. And, as Souness himself notes, he offers something different to what their other attacking players provide.

He may not play a great deal. But replacing him is going to be incredibly difficult in the summer, if he does leave.
