‘Sounds very good’… Journalist suggests Mikel Arteta would happily sign £70m Barcelona player for Arsenal
Arsenal have work to do in the transfer window.
Of course, all of the chat at the moment is about signing a new striker, but, at the same time, the Gunners could also do with midfield reinforcements.
The likes of Joao Palhinha and Douglas Luiz have been strongly linked, but speaking on , Simon Collings has suggested Frenkie De Jong as a potential signing.
Collings named De Jong as a dream signing for Arsenal, while he also stated that he’s probably a player that Mikel Arteta would like in his midfield.

Arteta would love De Jong
Collings shared his verdict on the Barcelona star.
“Yeah I’m a big fan of De Jong. I agree with Sam, that’s a part of a team that will be a big evolution point. They have added size with Rice and Havertz, but they need a technician, he seems like an ideal long-term replacement for Jorginho, for me it would make a lot of sense, I imagine he’s very much a player Arteta would like, if you imagine a midfield with De Jong, Odegaard and Rice in it that sounds very good doesn’t it?” Collings said.
Imagine that midfield
This isn’t a signing that is imminent by any stretch of the imagination, but we can’t help but salivate over the idea of De Jong, Rice and Odegaard playing in the same midfield.
Those three would be the perfect blend of physicality, technical ability and creativity, and if these three can unite on the pitch and click as we would expect them to, Arsenal would be a frightening team.
Of course, getting De Jong out of Barcelona won’t be easy, but, at the same time, Manchester United got to this signing last season, so perhaps that door is slightly more ajar than you may think.
