Son Heung-min praises Antonio Conte after Tottenham defeat

Son Heung-min has insisted that Tottenham Hotspur’s squad are so pleased with Antonio Conte, and thus, it is the players who must take responsibility following their defeat on Wednesday – .

Spurs squandered a brilliant opportunity in the race for the top-four in the Premier League. They were beaten 3-2 at home by Southampton to suffer their first home defeat under Conte.

It had appeared that Tottenham were well on their way to an important win. Jan Bednarek put through his own net for the opener. And Son was there to put Spurs back in front with 20 minutes remaining after Armando Broja had equalised for the visitors.

Ultimately however, it was Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men who kicked on and got themselves the three points. Mohamed Elyounoussi and Che Adams scored in a three minute spell to turn the contest around.

Steven Bergwijn thought he had produced some more stoppage-time heroics. However, an offside ruled Bergwijn’s goal out.

It was a hugely disappointing night for Tottenham. But Son suggested that no blame can be attached to Conte.

“Everyone is dropping points and it is a disappointing result. We are not looking at any other teams and want to finish as high as possible,” he said, .

“We are so pleased he (Antonio Conte) is giving us so much positive vibes and energy and a winning mentality. If we lose, players should take responsibility. We have to bring back on Sunday where we should be.”

Tottenham form a worry as they continue to threaten to turn corner under Conte

There is absolutely no question that Tottenham are moving forward. In Conte, they have a world-class manager at the helm.

However, their recent form has been a worry. They have won four and lost four of their last eight in all competitions.

Conte spoke about wanting to turn Tottenham Hotspur Stadium into a fortress at the weekend. That came after a superb win over Brighton in the FA Cup.

Unfortunately, they have missed a brilliant chance to move to within touching distance of the top four.

There are plenty of twists to come. And with Conte in charge, Tottenham still have every chance.
