Son Heung-min convinced 26-year-old Tottenham man should have been awarded MOTM today

Although handed MOTM against Newcastle United this evening, Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min thought the award belonged elsewhere.

Son provided two brilliant assists for his teammates as well as capping his display with a goal from the penalty spot.

However, Tottenham’s captain didn’t believe that he was the rightful beneficiary of the award.

Speaking to after the game, Son thought Tottenham’s Richarlison deserved the accolade for his two goals against Newcastle.

When accepting the trophy, : “I think Richy deserved it, but thank you very much.”

Of course, it was a brilliant return to the starting XI for Richarlison.

It was perhaps a surprise that Ange Postecoglou decided to place the Brazilian at the spearhead of his team.

Richarlison has often been used on the left since his mini-rival, with Son enjoying freedom in the middle.

However, the move was perhaps an ode to a little dip for Son in recent games, and if so, it was certainly a wise choice.

Tottenham’s front four looked incredibly excited throughout the game, as did one member of their back line.

This evening’s win was an incredibly timely one for Spurs.

If Postecoglou’s side were perhaps riding a bit of fortune in the early weeks of the season, they’ve certainly had none in the last couple.

But with a more familiar starting eleven, albeit missing two world-class players, Tottenham looked back to their best.

Newcastle were obviously fatigued, the only team who have been more unfortunate than Spurs with injuries this season.

But that shouldn’t take away from the performance.

And it certainly bodes so well to have the likes of Son, Richarlison and Brennan Johnson dovetailing brilliantly as they did for Tottenham against Newcastle today.

Spurs now face a Friday night trip to Nottingham Forest as they look to build a bit of form.

And although he may spring a surprise, fans can probably expect to see Richarlison up top once again.
