Some people at Man United think they should’ve signed ‘underrated’ Arsenal player instead of Casemiro

Casemiro was one of Manchester United’s best players last season.

The Brazilian brought an element of calmness, control and leadersh🍨ip to a midfield that was lacking any sort of grit last term.

He scored some massive goals and turned up in the huge moments, and, alꦛl in all, he looked like a top signing.

However, this season, the 31-year-old 🤪ꦏhas been way off the pace.

He’s had his ꦬinjury issues, but whenever he has played, he’s looked a beat behind the rest of his teammates, and at his age, with so many miles on the cꦯlock, that’s not a surprise.

All of a sudden, the discourse around the signing of Casemiro has chang💜ed, a💃nd according to , some within Old Trafford were never fully behind this signing.

Indeed, The Athletic now report that some within United thought that Declan Rice should’ve been signed instead of Casemiro.

Of course, the ‘’ midfielder has since signed for Arsenal for £10♑5m ෴where he’s proven himself to be a top player.

While we can understand the merits ꦅof signing Rice over Casemiro, this may be a case where hindsight is always 20/20.

At the time, arguing that signing a West Ham midfielder who’d never🌜 won a trophy ahead of a four-time Champions League-winning Brazil international would’ve been aꦯ tough sell.

Of course, as a long-term purchase, it has proven that Rice would’ve probably have been a bett🌺er signing, but let’s not forget the context around that Casemiro signing.

At the time Casemiro was signed, Manchester United were in crisis, they’d jus🥀t lo🤪st 4-0 to Brentford and needed something to lift the club and the dressing room.

With all due respect, Rice hadn’t proven that he waဣs that player at the time, while Casemiro had been established as one of the best i♉n the world for a decade at that point.

Rice probably would’ve been a better signing in hindsight, but it’s ve꧅ry easy to say th💦at with all the information we have now 18 months on.
