Some Newcastle United fans react as Freddie Woodman shines for Swansea City in play-off first-leg win
Some Newcastle United fans have been lauding Freddie Woodman on social media after the out-on-loan goalkeeper shone for Swansea City during their Championship play-off first-leg win over Barnsley.
The Toon loanee was in magnificent form as he kept his of the season in all competitions at Oakwell, to hand Steve Cooper’s side a narrow 1-0 lead over Valerien Ismael’s men heading into Saturday’s reverse fixture.
It was the shot-stopper’s third shutout of the campaign against the Tykes after refusing to be beaten in their regular-season meetings, which helped Woodman go on to clinch the second-tier’s with three clean sheets more than any other goalkeeper.

Woodman was far from given an easy ride in South Yorkshire, despite a relatively calm first half, with the 24-year-old called on to make a terrific double save to deny Carlton Morris and Callum Brittain in the second period.
The Newcastle product had to produce a particularly stunning stop to keep Brittain from scoring, but was also alert to numerous attacks and was flawless with his decision making.
Woodman’s performance certainly caught the eye of some Magpies supporters, with the former England U21 international set to return to St. James’ Park this summer but to face an uncertain future.
Reports by have suggested Woodman has no interest in staying in the North East next season if he is only going to be the back-up to Martin Dubravka or Karl Darlow, while claim Arsenal have tracked him since the end of last season.
Newcastle would be expected to demand a sizable sum to sell Woodman with their academy graduate under contract , but some supporters want him to stay as the goalkeeper could become their new number one.
