Some Newcastle fans react to claims club spent £7m on infrastructure over 10 years
Some Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media after revealed how little their side has spent on infrastructure over the last decade.
Supporters have longed to see St. James’ Park developed and the capacity raised over the years, and were left frustrated when owner Mike Ashley sold land around the outskirts of the stadium for £9million in 2019 ().
The ground was later given a makeover after the Toon commissioned a mural to be painted on the corner of the Gallowgate Stand, as part of a number of renovations including a new player’s entrance ().

Desire to see Darsley Park upgraded has also been a point of focus for Newcastle supporters (), who almost saw their wishes granted when the consortium led by Amanda Staveley committed to bringing the facilities and academy up to date.
But it has now been revealed that the North East outfit rank last of the current 20 Premier League sides for capital expenditure, having handed over a mere £7m between 2010 and 2019.
Tottenham Hotspur have spent considerably more than any other top-flight side at £1.4bn, having moved home from White Hart Lane and built a new training ground, ahead of Manchester City (£378m), Liverpool (£238m) and Brighton & Hove Albion (£181m).
West Bromwich Albion have spent the next least to Newcastle at £9m, as the only other club to have spent less than £20m on facilities between 2010 and 2020.
Here is how some Newcastle fans reacted to Swiss Ramble’s claims:

Jesus that’s just disgraceful.

Absolute disregard to the club and all it stands for. It’s pitiful how the club has been managed through Ashley, this isn’t

Explains the rot! 😡
— David Moy (@MoyD59)
Anyone else find it impossible to believe we even spent that?
— Paul M Walker (@Paulie105)
Let’s remember he did off set this 7 million by selling the clubs future at the gallowgate end for £9 million

This alone would be enough for fans to demand a new owner. Talk about a dereliction of duty

That must have been expensive paint they used in the training ground
