Some Arsenal fans react after Arsene Wenger discusses failure to sign Jamie Vardy
A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on Arsene Wenger’s discussion on beIN Sports about trying to bring Jamie Vardy to the Emirates Stadium in 2016.
Following Leicester’s Premier League title triumph five years ago, the former Gunners boss tried to sign the England international.
Arsenal reportedly agreed to meet the release clause included in Vardy’s contract, but Leicester ultimately convinced him to stay at the King Power Stadium and commit his future to the club.

Speaking to , Wenger recalled a considerable financial effort to take Vardy to North London, but Leicester were not prepared to part ways with their talisman.
“I offered him a lot of money at the time,” Wenger admitted.
“Leicester had just won the Premier League in 2016 and (late Leicester owner) Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha did absolutely not want to lose him.
“They offered him a longer contract and approximately the same money if not more.”
Vardy has continued to shine at the King Power, winning the Premier League Golden Boot last season and helping the Foxes go second in the table today with victory over Liverpool.
And some Arsenal fans on social media couldn’t help but wonder what might have been had Wenger succeeded in signing the evergreen Englishman:
Father knew always abt talents. If only the club backed him with finances at the right time😭

Wenger knew, Leicester has an amazing striker in Vardy and we all jealous

Exactly all that Laca lacks. Slow to react and doesn’t anticipate, mentally switches off in games and losses confidence with missed chances.

Imagine Ozil and Vardy wow

He tried his best to sign Vardy. Vardy was close to joining, he met Wenger at his office.
He ended up staying.
Since that summer Vardy has had 80+ PL goals.
A real missed opportunity.
