Some Arsenal fans and neutrals react to Matteo Guendouzi’s France U21 display last night
Arsenal loanee Matteo Guendouzi was in international action last night, captaining France Under-21s to a European Championship qualifying victory.
The 21-year-old is to spend the 2020-21 season with Hertha Berlin, with reporting that the Bundesliga side will cover his wages for the duration of the loan spell.
Guendouzi made the move on transfer deadline day, after which he linked up with Sylvain Ripoll’s squad for games against the U21s of Liechtenstein and Slovakia.
Following a 5-0 win over the former, France U21s secured a 1-0 victory over the latter last night, Jules Kounde netting the winner in the 22nd minute.
And Guendouzi’s performance earned plaudits from some Arsenal fans and neutrals alike, as seen below:
Guendouzi playing really well.

Matteo Guendouzi had some amazing positional awareness tonight and was releasing the ball early, looks like he has been working on the minor flaws he had.

Another solid performance from Guendouzi in the u21’s. Excited to see how Hertha utilize him.
Improved positional awareness. Better at engaging 1v1s somewhat, not as easy to bypass but this is Slovakia after all.
Most importantly he took less touches, even under pressure.

You could argue that Guendouzi does have “one dominant quality” in terms of progressing the ball from deep.

Guendouzi joined Arsenal in 2018 from French outfit Lorient, the Gunners reportedly paying £7million for his services, and he has clocked up 82 competitive club appearances to date.
However, he was frozen out at the Emirates Stadium in wake of an incident with Brighton striker Neal Maupay towards the end of their Premier League clash in June.
Guendouzi could make his Hertha debut on Saturday when the Berliners host Stuttgart.
