‘So underrated’: Jermaine Jenas wowed by one Liverpool player’s display at Arsenal

Liverpool defender Joel Matip has been lauded by Jermaine Jenas, who deemed the Reds ace “so underrated” and a “top player”.

The 30-year-old has been in incredible form for Jurgen Klopp’s charges this season.

Indeed, Matip won February’s Premier League Player of the Month award.

In doing so, he became the first centre-back to win the prize since Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk in 2018.

The following day, Matip played a wonderful through-ball for Luis Diaz‘s opener against Brighton.

And on Wednesday, the Liverpool defender played a huge role in helping the Reds overcome Arsenal.

Diogo Jota opened the scoring for the Anfield outfit in the 54th minute.

And just eight minutes later, Roberto Firmino grabbed Liverpool’s second.

As per , Matip made one tackle, blocked one shot, and made seven clearances against the Gunners.

Jenas lauded the defender on Twitter as the game entered the latter stages:

Matip has endured a lot of injuries during his time at Anfield, which have held him back.

But this season, he has been largely injury-free and is finally showing the football world just how good he is.

Indeed, Matip has arguably been more influential than Van Dijk this term – that’s how good he has been.
