‘So much quality’: Aaronson has lauded Illan Meslier after Leeds win

Brenden Aaronson has lauded Illan Meslier after Leeds United opened their Premier League campaign with a win on Saturday, and shared how the goalkeeper wowed his teammates in training before the game – .

Jesse Marsch’s men beat Wolves 2-1 at Elland Road. The Whites actually came from behind after Daniel Podence managed to squeeze the ball home after six minutes.

Leeds played some brilliant football while 1-0 down. And they were rewarded as they turned the game around. But Wolves had their chances also.

Hwang Hee-chan nearly scored a superb goal during the first-half. Meanwhile, Leander Dendoncker was through just before the half-time whistle. And Wolves had a free header from close range after the break.

But they were denied each time by some outstanding saves from Meslier. The Frenchman produced a big performance to help Leeds go on and seal what already feels like a very important victory.

Aaronson was arguably the player most were talking about after a scintillating display. But the USMNT international could not praise Meslier high enough after the win.

“You see it from him every single day. I think there was one day last week where he was saving everything and we were just shooting on him. He has so much quality in goal. He’s such a great goalie,” .

Aaronson lauded Meslier

Meslier had something of a point to prove going into this season. There is absolutely no question that he is an amazing talent. And his ceiling is incredibly high.

However, last year was a tough one for the 22-year-old. And there were times when it appeared that he would benefit from being taken out of the firing line.

He looked back to his best at times in pre-season. Few will forget his double save from Philippe Coutinho anytime soon. And he has carried that form into the curtain-raiser in the Premier League.

That could make a massive difference as Leeds look to avoid the same problems as last season.
