‘So disappointed’… Gary Neville left seriously unimpressed with £45m Tottenham player today

Gary Neville criticised Tottenham Hotspur’s Brennan Johnson after the forward wasted a decent opportunity against Manchester United today.

United got off to a flyer at Old Trafford as Rasmus Hojlund netted inside the opening three minutes.

Tottenham responded just 15 minutes later through Richarlison, who popped up with a well-placed header from a Pedro Porro corner.

Ange Postecoglou’s men began to dominate the game after levelling things up and created some promising openings.

Indeed, Spurs played out from the back brilliantly before Porro set Johnson away down the right-hand side.

The Welshman had Richarlison to aim at in the middle, who had managed to get ahead of his marker Jonny Evans.

But Johnson put far too much into his cross and it sailed over the Brazilian’s head, which left Gary Neville ‘disappointed’ while covering the game on .

Neville unimpressed with Johnson

Neville was co-commentating on today’s game and was unimpressed with Johnson wasting a ‘really good’ opportunity for Spurs.

“I am so disappointed in Brennan Johnson,” he said. “That’s a really good chance to play that into Richarlison.”

Johnson has enjoyed a fairly promising start to his Spurs career after joining from Nottingham Forest for a fee worth over the summer. But the 22-year-old does tend to lack conviction in the final third at times.

Spurs continued to dominate for large periods of the first half but always looked vulnerable on the counter.

Postecoglou’s side were hit against the run of play in the 40th minute, with Marcus Rashford producing an exceptional finish.

Timo Werner had a decent opportunity to open his Spurs account on his debut but dragged his effort well wide of Andre Onana’s far post.

Spurs were rewarded for their dominance in the second half as Rodrigo Bentancur linked up with Werner before smashing the ball past Onana.

Postecoglou’s men were unable to find a winner on the day after being the better side for the majority of the 90 minutes.
