‘So difficult’…£7m player says he just never fully enjoyed playing for Tottenham

Tottenham have had some good goalkeepers down the years but there’s definitely mixed opinion when it comes to Heurelho Gomes.

The Brazilian was a for Tottenham way back in 2008 and spent six years in north London.

Gomes is more famous really for his spell at Watford, where he excelled more than he had in a Tottenham shirt.

Of course, prior to joining Spurs Gomes had made over 100 appearances for PSV Eindhoven.

And speaking to , Gomes has shared why that love for PSV meant he just never ever fully settled as a Tottenham player.

Heurelho Gomes shares why he didn’t enjoy it at Tottenham

Commenting more on his love for PSV, Gomes revealed that the passion for the Dutch club meant he never got to grips with things at Spurs.

“Every time I’m back it’s good. Last year I went for the 110th anniversary. I tried to get to the stadium for the game against Rangers, but that was extremely difficult. I thought I would be able to walk past the people, but that didn’t really work, haha. It was also a beautiful feeling,” Gomes .

“I left in 2008, but my heart remained in Eindhoven for a long time. That’s why it was so difficult for me to get used to Tottenham, precisely because of that. My body left the club, but my heart stayed in Eindhoven. The club remains special to me because of what we have achieved. And I feel at home there. Every time I come to PSV; I feel like I’m dreaming. Eindhoven still feels like home.”

At least he’s honest

Tottenham fans probably won’t hold too much bad blood for Gomes really. Sure, his time was littered with errors but he always gave it a go.

He did well at Watford to be fair to him and comes across as quite the character.

This comment here probably isn’t meant as a dig at Tottenham either, more that he’s just explaining why it never quite worked.

Gomes, then, is unlikely to be roundly booed if he does return to north London.
