TBR View: Cash injury can allow Smith to plan for next season with Kesler
Cash’s injury problems have been an issue for Villa this season, with the Midlands club winning just one game out of the eight where the defender has not been available for selection, and two fixtures left to go, Smith can start looking towards the future of his defence in the form of playing 18-year-old right-back Kaine Kesler.
The Villa academy graduate played in the club’s FA Cup loss to Liverpool and won plaudits for his valiant performance against Jurgen Klopp’s side, and with just two games left to play in the Premier League and European football now mathematically unachievable for Smith’s side, there is nothing to lose in handing the teenage defender a start in the league.
