‘Slightly better’: Neil Critchley thinks Rhian Brewster produced his best performance of the season
Liverpool U23 manager Neil Critchley described Rhian Brewster’s latest performance as his best so far for the youth team, .
Brewster bagged a brace as Liverpool U23s sneaked a victory against Wolves. The 19-year-old scored to make it 1-0 and then 3-1 to Liverpool – who eventually ended up winning 4-3 in a tough game.
Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of Brewster and has included him in the first-team squad on several occasions. But he is still returning from a long-term injury and his fitness is not quite up to scratch for senior football.
Earlier this season, Brewster made his first-team debut for Liverpool against MK Dons. Now, Critchley believes Brewster is continuing to take steps closer to becoming a first-team regular.
Critchley on Brewster

Critchley said (): “He is looking slightly better every time he plays. That was arguably his best game for us this season, not just his goals but his all-round contribution, the way he led the line particularly without the ball, competing with his back to goal as well.
“He was competing very well with longer balls and balls in the air. He put a real shift in for the team which is something he will be able to do as he gets fitter. I was really pleased with his contribution.”
TBR’s view
It is no secret that Brewster is very highly rated by Liverpool and Klopp. If he continues to impress in the U23 side, it is only a matter of time before he is given more first-team chances.
The England U21 international is a natural goalscorer and if Mo Salah is still out, he could get his chance soon. Perhaps Klopp could even look at including him in the midweek clash with Genk?
