‘Slight injury concern’: Eddie Howe shares what Newcastle player told him after being subbed off yesterday

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has issued an update on the fitness of central defender Fabian Schar.

🔯Howe spoke to after his side went down 1-0 to German outfit Mainz in a pre-season friendly.

ꦇSchar was taken off with a few minutes remaining but Howe is hopeful that the injury is nothing too serious.

ꦯHowe said Schar told him it was more cramp than a muscle pull, so Newcastle will hope to have the Swiss international back available soon.

Newcastle boss Howe offers update on Schar

﷽“Overall we’ve got Fabi with maybe a slight injury concern,” he said.

🥃“But mainly a clean bill of health and that was the main thing.

✃“When he came off he was saying it was more crampy than a muscle pull.

𓄧“So fingers crossed he’d be fine, but with only three minutes to go we decided to take him off.”

🎶As Howe said, the most important thing is that his squad got through the game without any serious injuries and it is to be hoped that Schar has done that too.

༒He does not look to have got any other injuries out of the game, which he would have preferred to win but the result is not really important at this stage.

🌞Hopefully, the initial prognosis of cramp is right, and Schar is fit to return to training and matches as soon as possible for Newcastle.
