Slavia Prague president says West Ham deal for Vladimir Coufal is close
The president of Slavia Prague has suggested in a message on Twitter that Vladimir Coufal is heading to Premier League outfit West Ham United.
It would be the second signing from the Czech outfit in as many transfer windows, following the Hammers completing a deal for Tomas Soucek.
West Ham are desperate for players to arrive at the club and Coufal would strengthen the team’s defensive unit.
Ryan Fredericks has recently been ruled out with a hamstring problem and David Moyes has moved quickly to sign another right-back.
Coufal has been with Slavia Prague since 2018 when he checked in from fellow Czech outfit Slovan Liberec.
He is a player in the mould of a modern-day full-back and shows unbelievable energy to get up and down the pitch.
The fee for the player, as also confirmed by the president, will be in the region of £5 million and Coufal is set for a medical at the London Stadium.

Jaroslav Tvrdik popped the emotional message on Twitter last night following Slavia’s 4-1 defeat to FC Midtjylland which ended their participation in the Champions League.
The Tweet practically confirms the deal and as a translation reads: “I thanked the huge warrior and heartfelt Vladimir Coufal for his excellent work in Slavia. He transfers to WHU on the basis of a concluded contract. The condition for the transfer is a medical examination tomorrow in London. The transfer price is 6 million euros. Vlado, let them give you PL.”
Coufal has won two league titles with his current club and should be a Hammer before the deadline on Monday.
TBR View – Value in the market, proved by Soucek
The man with eight caps for his country perhaps isn’t the big-name signing that West Ham fans craved but they should give Coufal a chance.
When Soucek signed back in January, he too wasn’t deemed a household name, but already the Hammers faithful have taken to him.
At 28, the defender is in his prime and with Fredericks injured he should have ample chance to get his feet under the table.
West Ham aren’t blessed with the millions of some other clubs but supporters needn’t worry about that.
Soucek proved himself a hit from a lesser-ranked league and Coufal could well do the same.
