Slaven Bilic raves about ‘terrific’ £20m-rated PL star, amid West Ham links
Slaven Bilic has raved about the ability of West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, who is reportedly a target for West Ham.
According to the earlier this month, West Ham and Watford are both readying bids for the 28-year-old.
However, West Brom do have a £20million asking price on the shot-stopper that clubs are not willing to meet.
Johnstone was part of a West Brom side that were relegated from the Premier League in the 2020/21 campaign. Despite that disappointment, the goalkeeper has a reputation as a great number one with amazing reflexes.
Ex-West Ham manager Bilic is extremely complimentary with his comments about Johnstone. He was his boss during his time in charge of West Brom.
“Sam is a terrific guy, he is so calm and such a hard worker,” Bilic.
“Sam is not a loud guy. He is very calm and doesn’t speak a lot. He is one of those guys that gives you confidence with his calmness.
“Sam is a great shot-stopper, great with his feet, great technique and so quick that he can dive one side and then save impossible things the other way.”

Johnstone great fit for West Ham, but at the right price
West Brom have a big decision to make on Johnstone this summer.
Crucially, he made a huge impression on his England debut last week, which only helped to enhance his reputation. The Baggies know he’s entering the final year of his contract so need to decide if they will keep him for their upcoming season in the Championship.
For West Ham, Johnstone looks like an attractive option that would compete with 36-year-old Lukasz Fabianski.
However, that price tag needs to drop dramatically given his contract situation.
